Abstract
Single-parent women in rural areas face intertwined social and economic
pressures resulting from the dual burden of childcare and household needs. In communal
village societies, close social ties can serve as a source of support while simultaneously
reinforcing stigma and moral control over women living without a partner. This study
aims to identify the forms of social and economic pressure experienced by single-parent
women in Kekeri Village, Gunungsari District, West Lombok Regency, and to analyze the
social resilience they build using the theory of Keck and Sakdapolrak (coping, adaptive,
and transformative capacities). This qualitative research with a case study approach
involved ten informants through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation.
Results show that social pressure appears in the form of stigma and negative judgment
as well as pressure from ex-husbands, while economic pressure is reflected in unstable
income, the role of being the family breadwinner, and uneven access to social assistance.
Coping capacities emerge through indifference or confrontation toward stigma, support
from trusted individuals, borrowing during urgent situations, and spiritual closeness;
adaptive capacities emerge through income diversification, labor migration, skills
training, and financial management; while transformative capacities remain limited to
social contributions made by single-parent women through the networks they possess.
