Abstract

This study was aimed at identifying the activities in the English
Training Camp that improve students’ speaking skills and exploring students’
perceptions toward the effect of the activities at Nurul Haramain Islamic
Boarding School. This study employed a descriptive qualitative research
design. The participants of this study consisted of 3 tutors and 15 students who
actively participated in the English Camp program. The data were collected
through observation, interviews, and questionnaires. Furthermore, the data
were analyzed using data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The
findings revealed that the English Training Camp contributed positively to the
improvement of students’ speaking skills through various activities. The
activities helped students improve their speaking skill. In addition, the
students showed positive perceptions toward the English Training Camp
activities because the program provided a supportive learning environment,
tutor guidance, and opportunities to practice English actively in daily
communication. Among the activities, the super camp program was
considered the most effective activity in improving students’ speaking skill
and confidence.
